Sick notes

If you’ve been off sick for more than 7 days

If you’ve been ill for more than 7 days, you’ll need a doctor’s certificate, known as a ‘Fitness to Work’ Certificate. The doctor might call you or arrange an appointment. If you’ve already seen your doctor about this illness, your certificate will be sent to you between 5 to 14 days.

Please note that a Fit To Work Certificate, CAN, be back dated should you need it to start on a previous date.

The times stated are only estimates and may be done quicker or may take longer.

If you’ve been off sick for 7 days or less

If you are absent from work due to illness for 7 days or less, your employer should not require medical evidence for your illness. Instead, they may request that you confirm your illness by completing a self-certification form upon your return to work.
